Today, I was back in Zennor (near St Ives) for another portrait course organised by Rose @justlife.art 😎. This was day 1 of 5 from a “Portrait Painting in Oils for Beginners and Improvers” led by the very talented tutor Catherine @catherinemacdiarmid 😍 - 26/08/2026.

Even though the students were focusing more on learning about applying oils rather than the figure accuracy - i think these look pretty amazing 😁. I won’t be there for the other days of the workshop but im sure by the end of it, there will be some fabulous paintings.

Thanks to all the artists that was there today, fabulous bunch and some familiar faces too from life drawing sessions 👨🏻‍🎨

The new Falmouth Uni term starts again next month and im sure there will be lots and lots more sessions to be had with always a mixture of life drawing, costumes, portraits along with the fin and intentional “bad” drawing sessions which are always fun to pose for. Also looking forward to catching up again with all the amazing tutors there as well 😍

Was an absolute pleasure to meet Jen @jen.mcevoy at long last 😍. Jen regular visits family/friends here in the UK and travelled all the way from the USA 🇺🇸 so i was very chuffed to be invited to life draw model for her and her daughter Lillian @ian.mac.art @lillian.mcevoy while they had a short stay over in Plymouth before travelling elsewhere.

Lots of gorgeous sketches by them both and such iconic background too 😎.

These are my own sketches trying some new Conte a Paris graphite pencils and actually learning to use different pencils for shading other than just a 4B pencil I’ve been using up until now. Poses were from 10 to 40 minutes.
